Citation: On this date at approximately 0745 hours while performing an unscheduled 06D02 procedure, the following non-compliance was observed: Grass and weeds at the base of three of the establishment's exterior walls are overgrown and high requiring trimming. This could lead to the creation of insanitary conditions and prevents inspection by FSIS personnel to ensure the absence of rodent activity, evidence of breeding and harborage, and prevention of entrance to the facility. There is no product involved and no adulteration has occurred. Establishments must be maintained so as to prevent conditions that lead to insanitary conditions or interfere with inspection by FSIS program employees. Management was made aware of this problem 05/09/2011 and immediately placed a call to maintenance personnel in an effort to remedy the situation, however, action was not taken. I notified Mr. verbally and with this written notice. This document serves as written notification that failure to comply with regulatory requirements could result in additional regulatory or administrative action.


416.2(a) Grounds and pest control. The grounds about an establishment must be maintained to prevent conditions that could lead to insanitary conditions, adulteration of product, or interfere with inspection by FSIS program employees. Establishments must have in place a pest management program to prevent the harborage and breeding of pests on the grounds and within establishment facilities. Pest control substances used must be safe and effective under the conditions of use and not be applied or stored in a manner that will result in the adulteration of product or the creation of insanitary conditions.
